Damit sie ihre Beute nicht an Löwen oder Hyänen verlieren, schaffen sie sie meist ins Dickicht oder hoch auf einen Baum – ein gewaltiger Kraftakt. Die Beute wird über mehrere Tage verzehrt, und zwischendurch mit Gras oder Zweigen bedeckt, damit sie vor anderen Tieren sicher ist. Manchmal treffen Leoparden auch zufällig auf Jungtiere, die im Gras versteckt liegen und töten sie, oder sie jagen schwächeren Raubtieren, zum Beispiel Geparden, deren Beute ab.
