Description
Spituk Gompa – the Buddhist monastery located in Spituk, near to Leh - the capital city of the Ladakh region in Northern India. It currently belongs to the Gelug school of the Tibetan Buddhism, which was founded in the 15th century by Tsongkhapa, although it existed earlier, when it belonged to another school. Spituk Gustor – the religious, masked dance festival is held here every winter. It is large, important monastery of Ladakh. The mountains in the background belong to the Ladakh Range regarded often as the southernmost part of the Karakoram, which main part is further behind the Ladakh Range. Photographed in late summer (Setember) from the Indus valley. Union Territory of Ladakh, India.
