Description
Im Jahre 1562 war das alte Hofer Rathaus abgebrochen worden, weil die Ratsherren das Stadtbild verschönern wollten. Der Neubau entstand im Stile der Renaissance. 1625 brannte das Rathaus aus. Der Wiederaufbau erfolgte im Barockstil. Beim großen Stadtbrand von 1823 fiel das Hofer Rathaus dem Flammenorkan zum Opfer. Beim Wiederaufbau entschied sich der Architekt Georg Erhard Saher für neugotische Ausschmückungen. Das Hofer Rathaus diente später sogar als Vorbild für das Rathaus der thüringischen Stadt Weimar, das allerdings reichere Formen aufweist. Saher ließ auf den Wandflächen noch reichlich gotische Ornamente anbringen. Auch das frühere Stadtwappen schmückt diese Flächen.
