Description
Krafla volcanic area, Krafla caldera. The volcanic activity episode called Krafla Fires took place during 1979-84 in this caldera. The lava flowed from a row of craters in the area of Leirhnjúkur. There was an earlier eruption event in the area called Mývatn Fires, which took place in 1720's. Krafla is located in the Mývatn region in Norðurland eystra (North-East Iceland).
