Description
The historic „Koepchenwerk“, in Herdecke, was one of the first large pumped storage power plants in Germany. The old power plant had an installed capacity of 153 megawatts; it was commissioned in1930 and shut down in 1994. Between 1985 and 1989, the pumped storage power plant „Herdecke“ (153 MW electrical output) was built next to the old plant on the lakeshore. The hydro reservoir capacity is 1.53 million cubic meter.
