Am 6. Dezember 2009 wurde der Schwarze Diamant, ein Erweiterungsbau des Deutschen Bergbau Museums in Bochum fuer Sonderausstellungen, eroeffnet. Das Bauwerk mit seiner markanten tiefschwarzen und bei Sonneneinstrahlung glitzernden Fassade stellt sich als Schnitt durch ein Stollensystem dar. Das Deutsche Bergbau Museum in Bochum ist das groesste in der Welt. Das Foerdergeruest stammt von der ehemaligen Dortmunder Zeche Germania. Erbaut wure das Museumsgebauede von dem bedeutenden Industriearchitekten Fritz Schupp in den 30er Jahren. Eine besondere Attraktion ist das Anschauungsbergwerk unter Tage mit einem Streckennetz von ca. 2,5 km Laenge. Hier vermittelt sich hautnah der grundlegende Wandel des Bergmanns. Das Deutsche Bergbau Museum gehoehrt zu den Ankerpunkten der Route Industriekultur im Ruhrgebiet sowie der Europaeischen Route der Industriekultur ERIH.
