Description

Die obere Wassermuehle gehoert, genauso wie die untere, bewohnte, Wassermuehle, zur Burganlage Schermbeck. Das ehemaliges Wasserschloss Schermbeck wurde als klevische Landesburg um 1300 erbaut. Sie diente über mehrere Jahrhunderte den klevischen Amtsmaennern als Wohnsitz. Die Burg wurde 1319 erstmals urkundlich erwaehnt. In ihrer darauf folgenden wechselvollen Geschichte wurde sie mehrfach zerstoert oder beschaedigt und umgebaut. Seit 1662 befindet sie sich in Privatbesitz.
