Description
Lion walking from the processional street (detail) of ancient Babylon in the Pergamon Museum in Berlin. The bas-relief consists of brick elements in 11 layers. The basic brick dimensions of 33 x 33 x 8 cm (whole stone) are extended on one side by a relief fitting. The manufacture was probably made in slightly enlarged wooden brick molds, in one side of which the relief matrix was placed before the hand was pressed at this point Inserted sound to then cross out the frame. After removing the frame, the relief brick remained, which gained structural strength in a first firing process and received the colored glaze in another. In this way, any right-handed or left-handed lion reliefs could be created using two basic shapes.
