Die Terrakotta-Armee (Soldaten- und Pferde-Armee), Teil des Mausoleums des Kaisers Qin, wurde im März 1974 in der Nähe von Xi'an, Provinz Shaanxi, China, entdeckt. Kurz darauf begannen professionelle Ausgrabungen. Bis heute ist erst etwa ein Viertel der gesamten Anlage komplett freigelegt.Es handelt sich um die Darstellung einer vollständigen Armee der damaligen Zeit, bestehend aus mehr als 7.000 lebensgroßen Tonfiguren, die auf mehrere unterirdische Kammern verteilt sind.
