Das Sowjetische Ehrenmal in der Schönholzer Heide in Berlin-Pankow wird in den Jahren 2011 und 2012 umfassend restauriert. Hier sind mehr als 13.000 Soldaten und Offiziere begraben, die im Frühjahr 1945 bei der Schlacht um Berlin gefallen sind. Mit der Wiedervereinigung und dem Abzug der russischen Truppen hat die Bundesrepublik Deutschland die dauerhafte Verpflichtung übernommen, für den Erhalt der Mahnmale Sorge zu tragen. Anders als bei den anderen sowjetischen Ehrenmalen steht die Trauer um die gefallenen Soldaten im Zentrum des Schönholzer Denkmals, symbolisiert durch eine Statue der russischen Mutter Heimat. - The Soviet War Memorial in the Schönholz heath in Berlin-Pankow is fully restored in 2011 and 2012. More than 13,000 soldiers and officers who have fallen at the battle around Berlin in spring 1945, are buried here. With the reunification and the withdrawal of the Russian troops, the Federal Republic of Germany has taken the lasting obligation for the preservation of the memorials.
