Description

Die Grosse Liegende Nr. 5 von dem weltberuehmten Bildhauer Henry Moore ist 1965 von ihm persoenlich als Kontrapunkt zu der damals sehr massigen Betonfassade des Ruhrfestspielhauses aufgestellt worden. Das Ruhrfestspielhaus ist 1965 gebaut und von 1998 bis 2000 von Grund auf erneuert worden. Es liegt schoen im Stadtgarten in Recklinghausen und ist die Heimstatt der Ruhrfestspiele. Am 1. Mai werden die Ruhrfestspiele traditionell eroeffnet und zeigen dann bis Mitte Juni das Beste aus Theater, Ballett und Musik. Die Ruhrfestspiele sind eine Gemeinschaftsaufgabe der Stadt Recklinghausen und des DGB. Dabei hat alles sehr klein angefangen. Schauspieler des Hamburger Schauspielhauses machten sich im harten Winter 1946/47 auf, um Kohle im Ruhrgebiet fuer ein warmes Theater zu organisieren. In Recklinghausen wurden sie bei Bergleuten fuendig und bedankten sich mit einem Gastspiel 1947 vor Ort. Das war der Beginn der Ruhrfestspiele und begruendete das Motto: Kohle fuer Kunst - Kunst fuer Kohle.
