Description

Fuer die Entwicklung der Stadt Castrop-Rauxel spielte die Zeche Erin eine zentrale Rolle. 1867 gruendete der Ire William Thomas Mulvany die Zeche, die den keltischen Namen der "gruenen Insel" traegt. Nach der wirtschaftlichen Bluete endete die Aera des Bergbaus mit der Zechenschliessung 1983. Heute haben auf dem ehemaligen Zechengelaende zahlreiche Firmen im Dienstleistungs-, Gewerbe- und Landschaftspark Erin ihren Sitz. Der stehengebliebene 68 Meter hohe Foerderturm der Zeche Erin ist dabei ein sehenswertes und zentrales Wahrzeichen. Allabendlich wird der Foerderturm angeleuchtet und ist ein Teil des Kunstprojekts Tag-Nacht-Panorama des Emscher Landschaftsparks.
