Sechs Kilometer östlich von Kathmandu liegt Boudha oder Bodnath. Hier steht die größte Stupa des Landes. Er bildet das religiöse Zentrum der tibetischen Gemeinschaft Nepals und ist schon seit geraumer Zeit mit der tibetischen Hauptstadt Lhasa und dem tibetischen Buddhismus verbunden. Für die newarischen Buddhisten hingegen hat er keine kultische Bedeutung mehr.
