Im Museum der Grafschaft Mark in der Burg Altena reicht der Spannungsbogen der Ausstellung von der geologischen Fruehgeschichte ueber das Mittelalter, die Fruehe Neuzeit und das Industriezeitalter bis in die Gegenwart. Ueppige Inzenierungen lassen teilhaben an den Kaempfen, Jagden und Tafelrunden der Ritter und Adeligen, aber auch an dem Leben der Bauern und Handwerker. Die Burg Altena wurde der Legende nach Anfang des 12. Jahrhunderts von den Grafen von Berg errichtet. Im Jahr 1912 richtete Richard Schirrmann auf der Burg die erste staendige Jugendherberge der Welt ein. Heute ist die Burg Wahrzeichen der Stadt Altena und Anziehungspunkt fuer Touristen aus der ganzen Welt.
