Description

Das Theater an der Ruhr wurde 1980 von dem italienischen Regisseur Roberto Ciulli und dem Dramaturgen Helmut Schaefer als gGmbH in Muelheim an der Ruhr gegruendet. Die Stadt Muelheim wurde ebenfalls Gesellschafter der gGmbH. Das Theater wird bei einem Etat von 3,6 Mio. Euro jaehrlich zu 50 Prozent subventioniert und zu 50 Prozent durch die Einnahmen des Theaters finanziert. Sein Konzept bedeutet eine kuenstlerische und wirtschaftliche Alternative zum herkoemmlichen Modell kommunaler Buehnen. Spielorte sind seit 1980 die Muelheimer Stadthalle und seit Dezember 1981 das Kurhaus im Solbad im Raffelbergpark an der Stadtgrenze Muelheims zu Duisburg.
