Zaubertrommler verzückt Kulturarena Manu Katché – am Donnerstagabend zu Gast auf der Kulturarena in Jena – ist in der Musikwelt bekannt wie ein bunter Hund. Auf Hunderten Alben ist sein markantes, von westafrikanischer wie auch westeuropäischer Rhythmustradition beeinflusstes Schlagzeugspiel zu hören. Viele kennen den eindrucksvollen Drum-Sound von Peter Gabriels „So“ oder Stings „... nothing like the sun“. Seit 2005 pflegt er eine fruchtbare Solo- Zusammenarbeit mit Manfred Eichers ECM Records, bei der er sich als exzellenter Jazzer zeigt. Gemeinsam mit seiner insgesamt vierköpfigen Band bewies der Franzose, dass guter Jazz auch ohne Stimme funktioniert, und auch ein Schlagzeuger ein substantieller Bandleader sein kann.
