Description

Seit Oktober 2008 befindet sich im Astenturm die Ausstellung des LWL Museums fuer Naturkunde Kahler Asten Das Dach Westfalens. Schwerpunkte sind das Naturschutzgebiet mit der Hochheide, die Wetterstation und die Geschichte des Astenturms. Ferner werden Ausschnitte aus Amateurfilmen vergangener Jahrzehnte gezeigt. Auf dem Gipfel des Kahlen Astens steht auf 841 Meter ueber Normal Null der an das Hotel und Restaurant angegliederte Astenturm, ein Aussichtsturm, von dessen Plattform, die in einer Hoehe von 862 ueber Normal Null liegt, sich eine Rundumsicht nicht nur ueber das Rothaargebirge bietet. Bei extrem klarem Wetter reicht der Blick von dort bis zum 163 Kilometer weit entfernten Brocken im Harz in Sachsen Anhalt.
