Description

Das Schloss Berge, frueher auch Haus Berge genannt, im Stadtteil Buer von Gelsenkirchen im Ruhrgebiet steht auf der Suedseite des Buerschen Berges. Erbaut wurde es als Wasserburg zum Schutz des heutigen Stadtteils Erle, wurde aber in der ersten Haelfte des 16. Jahrhunderts zum Schloss umgestaltet. Der zweigeschossige repraesentative Dreifluegelbau mit Mansardendach steht unter Denkmalschutz und beherbergt heute ein Hotel und Restaurant. Ein grosszuegig angelegter Park mit einem geometrisch gestalteten Barockgarten nach franzoesischem Vorbild wurde nach Westen um einen englischen Landschaftsgarten erweitert. Zugleich entstand gegenueber dem Haupteingang des Schlosses der Berger See, der zusammen mit dem Gelsenkirchener Stadtwald als Naherholungsgebiet dient.
