Im Zentrum des Stadtteils Buer liegt das Kunstmuseum Gelsenkirchen. Das Museum wurde 1984 nach zweijaehriger Bauzeit eroeffnet. Die Sammlung des Museums umfasst etwa 1300 Exponate der klassischen Moderne, des Konstruktivismus, der Kinetik und der zeitgenoessischen Kunst, eine Grafiksammlung und die Sammlung von Anton Stankowski. Jaehrlich werden sechs bis acht Wechselausstellungen durchgefuehrt.
