Die Kartoffelrose (Rosa rugosa, Syltrose) gehört zu den am meisten vorkommenden Pflanzen auf Sylt. Sie stammt ursprünglich aus Japan und wurde seit Mitte des 18. Jh. in Europa als Pionierpflanze an Stränden und Dünen gepflanzt. Selbst unter den rauhen und kargen Bedingungen an der Odde, der Südspitze von Sylt, gedeiht die Pflanze vorzüglich.
