Der Schacht XII der Zeche Zollverein wurde zwischen 1928 und 1932 von Fritz Schupp und Martin Kremmer gebaut, den damals fuehrenden Industriearchitekten des Ruhrgebiets. Seit Dezember 2001 gehoeren die Zeche und die Kokerei Zollverein zum Weltkulturerbe der UNESCO. Das Welterbe Zeche und Kokerei Zollverein ist ein Ankerpunkt mit Besucherzentrum nicht nur der Route Industriekultur im Ruhrgebiet sondern auch der Europaeischen Route der Industriekultur ERIH.
