Das Ruhr Museum, hervorgegangen aus dem frueheren Ruhrlandmuseum, gehoert mit seinen Abteilungen Geologie, Archaeologie, Geschichte und Fotografie zu den aeltesten Museen des Ruhrgebiets. Auf rund 5.000 qm Flaeche wird in der ehemaligen Kohlenwaesche der Zeche Zollverein in Essen ein historisches Panorama des gesamten Ruhrgebiets aus den letzten Jahrhunderten gezeigt. Der Ausstellungsparcours, der oben im Gebaeude mit der Gegenwart des Ruhrgebiets beginnt fuehrt in seinem Verlauf immer tiefer in die Vergangenheit dieser Region. Das Welterbe Zeche und Kokerei Zollverein ist ein Ankerpunkt mit Besucherzentrum nicht nur der Route Industriekultur im Ruhrgebiet sondern auch der Europaeischen Route der Industriekultur ERIH. Im Besucherzentrum Ruhr können sich Besucher umfassend ueber die Route der Industriekultur informieren. Von hier aus starten auch die Fuehrungen der Stiftung Zollverein.
