Description
Die Hagia Sophia wurde im 6. Jahrhundert als byzantinische Kirche in Konstantinopel, dem heutigen heute Istanbul, errichtet. Sie wurde später als Moschee benutzt. Das Besondere an diesem Bauwerk ist die Kuppel, die 56 m hoch und 31 m breit ist. Errichtet wurde die damalige Kirche nämlich von Kaiser Justinian I, der als großer Architekturförderer bekannt war. Zum Bau beauftrage er die Architekten Anthemios und Tralles, die als gute Theoretiker und Mathematiker bekannt waren und ursprünglich aus Kleinasien stammen.
