Granada, Spain - August 14, 2011: Palace of Charles V in the Alhambra of Granada, Spain. Charles V, King of Spain and Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire wanted a new royal residence in the middle of the ancient muslim citadel as a symbol of Catholicism. The building of the Palace, in Roman style, started in 1526 but it was interrupted many times during about a century, then definitely abandoned. Only in 1923 the Palace was restored and finished.
