Description

Neben der Schlossruine sind heute die Reste der Sylvesterkapelle zu sehen. Das Gebaeude, das vermutlich im 11. Jahrhundert erbaut wurde, erlebte eine sehr wechselhafte Geschichte. 1464 wurde die Kapelle zu einer katholischen Filialkirche der Stammpfarre Bochum ausgebaut. Spaeter dann, im Zuge der Reformation kam sie in den Besitz der lutherischen Gemeinde. Die jedoch wegen des baulichen Verfalls der Kirche, Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts an anderer Stelle die heutige Matthaeuskirche baute. Der Kirchenbesitz mit der Kirchenruine wurde im Jahre 1890 an die Famlie von Berswordt verkauft und gehoert noch heute zu ihr. Bei einem Fliegerangriff im Mai 1943 wurden sowohl Kapelle als auch Herrenhaus bis auf die Außenmauern zerstoert.
