Description

Nordstern Colliery is a former coal mine in Gelsenkirchen. The site has been transformed into a park. The listed winding tower was upgraded as part of this project, raised by four glass floors and crowned with a statue (Hercules of Gelsenkirchen). The colliery is part of the Industrial Heritage Trail (German: Route der Industriekultur) which links tourist attractions related to the industrial heritage in the Ruhr area in Germany.
