Der Vulkan Poas hat eine Höhe von 2708 Meter und befindet sich im Parque Nacional Volcán Poás in Costa Rica in der Nähe von San Jose. Am Fuße des Poas wird viel Kaffee angebaut. Es gibt zwei Kraterseen. Der nördliche, aktive Krater hat einen Durchmesser von gut 1500 Metern, ist 300 Meter tief und birgt die Laguna Caliente mit einem Durchmesser von 365 Metern. Es handelt sich um einen Säuresee mit einem pH-Wert unter 1. Das ätzende Wasser ist türkisblau.
