Description
The impressively located fortress monastery of Basgo, towering high above the village of the same name, was built during the 16th and 17th centuries. Three temples of the complex house three statues of the Buddha Maitreya (the Future Buddha), the highest being 14m high. In recent years the complex undergone renovation supported by the World Monuments Found contributed by the local villagers. Photographed from the main Srinagar-Leh road.
