Etwa 9 km nördlich von Kathmandu steht im Dorf Narayanthan die älteste und wohl wichtigste Tempelgruppe des Kathmandutals: Budhanilkantha. Gewidmet ist sie Jalashayana Narayan, dem im Urozean auf einem Schlangenbett schlummernden Vishnu. Jeden Morgen und Abend finden rituelle Waschungen statt. Ausgeführt werden diese Zeremonien von Brahmanen, die als einzige die Körper des Vishnu betreten dürfen. Zuerst wird das Kultbild gewaschen, zunächst mit Wasser und dann mit einer Mischung aus zerlassener Butter, Joghurt, Milch, Honig und Zucker. Haupt und Füße werden bemalt. Dann werden die vielen Blüten, die von den Gläubigen als Gaben dargebracht werden, um das Haupt es Vishnu drapiert.
