Description
Lamayuru Gompa, one of the oldest and largest Buddhist monasteries in Ladakh. Its history dates back to the time of Naropa and Ringchen Zangpo, who both lived at the turn of 10th and 11th centuries. Photographed in mid-December, at the beginning of winter, when it is dry, usually sunny but there is hardly any snow (whatever falls almost completely evaporates quickly). The Lamayuru village, where the monastery is located, is easily accessible as the India’s National Highway 1 (NH 1) passes this place. Union Territory of Ladakh, India.
