Der Heringszaun in Kappeln nahe der Mündung der Schlei in die Ostsee wurde bereits Mitte des 15. Jahrhunderts urkundlich erwähnt und steht heute unter Denkmalschutz. Er ist der letzte funktionsfähige Fischzaun in Deutschland. Derartige Fischzäune waren ehemals eine sehr effiziente Fangmethode. - The herring fence in Kappeln near the mouth of the Schlei into the Baltic Sea was already mentioned in documents in the middle of the 15th century and is now a listed construction. It is the last functioning fish fence in Germany. Such a fish weir were formerly a very efficient method of fishing.
