Description

Ein Foerdergeruest und einige Backsteinbauten, erinnern an die Zeche Bonifacius, die einst das Dorf Kray in einen Industrieort verwandelte. Obwohl das Bergwerk Bonifacius vor über 30 Jahren, 1974, stillgelegt wurde, konnte das Zechen-Ensemble dank privater Initiative vor Verfall und Abriss bewahrt werden. Heute sind die Gebaeude denkmalgeschuetzt und sorgfaeltig saniert. Sie werden sowohl gewerblich als auch gastronomisch genutzt. Die praechtige neugotische Lohnhalle, in der einst die Bergleute ihren Wochenlohn erhielten, beherbergt heute das Kultur- und Tagungshotel Alte Lohnhalle. Die Zeche Bonifacius gehoert zur Themenroute 17, der Rheinischen Bergbauroute, der Route Industriekultur im Ruhrgebiet.
