Description

Das Museum Kueppersmuehle wurde im Jahre 1999 eroeffnet und befindet sich in einem ehemaligen Getreidespeicher im Innenhafen in Duisburg. Es wurde nach den Plaenen der Architekten Herzog und de Meuron umgebaut. Initiator des Museumsprojektes war der Duisburger Kunstsammler Hans Grohe. Seit der Uebernahme durch das Darmstaedter Sammlerpaar Stroeher wurde die Zahl der vertretenen Kuenstler noch erheblich groesser, weswegen bereits neue Praesentationsraeume entstanden sind. Ein spektakulaerer Ergaenzungsbau der Stararchitekten Herzog und de Meuron soll bereits im Kulturhauptstadtjahr 2010 die Ausstellungsflaechen erheblich erweitern.Um 1900 entstand am Duisburger Innenhafen das Zentrum des deutschen Getreidehandels. Nach dem zweiten Weltkrieg verlor der Hafen seine Bedeutung, in den siebziger Jahren drohte den alten Getreidespeichern der Abriss. Heute gestalten Architekten, Kuenstler und Stadtplaner ihn zu einem attraktiven Stadtquartier um, das Arbeiten, Wohnen und Freizeit miteinander verbindet. Der Duisburger Innenhafen gehoert zu den Ankerpunkten der Route Industriekultur im Ruhrgebiet sowie der Europaeischen Route der Industriekultur ERIH und ist ein Projekt der Internationalen Bauausstellung Emscher Park (IBA).
