Description
[Dry bulk freighter in ballast maneuvered towards loading facility at 'Dead Sea Works', Eilat, Israel] 'Dead Sea Works' is the world's fourth largest producer and supplier of potash products. One of the company's operations is the exportation of the potash extracted at the Dead Sea via a facility located in Eilat. In the absence of a railroad the mineral is transported to the loading facility by trucks. From there it is shipped to the next destination via bulk freighters such as the two depicted in the photograph. Across the bay, in Aqaba, Jordan, there is a very similar operation. A storage warehouse, the loading facility belonging to the 'Arab Potash Company' as well as a number of freighters can be seen in the background and are rendered in adequate detail. Please note: The image in whole exhibits a slight amount of atmospheric distortion due to the great distance it was captured from.
