Description

Die Jahrhunderthalle in Bochum wurde 1902 als Ausstellungshalle des "Bochumer Vereins" fuer die Duesseldorfer Gewerbeausstellung gebaut und anschliessend als Geblaesehalle fuer die Hochoefen im Bochumer Gussstahlwerk genutzt. Die luftige Stahlkonstruktion gilt als eines der ersten Beispiele fuer einen rein zweckbestimmten Ingenieurbau. 1993 wurde die 8900 qm grosse Halle saniert und seitdem fuer vielfaeltige Veranstaltungen genutzt. Heute ist sie das Zentrum des neuen Westparks. Der Westpark, ehemals eine "verbotene Stadt", ist heute Teil eines stadtuebergreifenden Radwegenetztes, Erlebnislandschaft sowie Naherholungsgebiet fuer die umliegenden Wohnquartiere. Nach Abschluss umfangreicher Umbaumassnahmen im Jahre 2003 nutzt das Musik- und Theaterfestival "RuhrTriennale" die Jahrhunderthalle als Festspielhaus und zentrale Spielstaette. Heute wird die Jahrhunderthalle auch als Industrie Kathedrale der Kultur bezeichnet und gehoehrt zu den Ankerpunkten der Route Industriekultur im Ruhrgebiet sowie der Europaeischen Route der Industriekultur ERIH.
