Die ehemalige Inselhauptstadt Plymouth wurde 1997 durch einen pyroklastischen Strom zerstört. Seitdem sind mehrere dieser Glutwolken durch die evakuierte Stadt geflossen. Die Bewohner hatten nur wenige Stunden Ziet die Stadt zu verlassen und ließen praktisch ihr gesamtes Hab und Gut zurück.
