Description
Die Hagia Sophia wurde im 6. Jahrhundert als byzantinische Kirche in Konstantinopel, dem heutigen heute Istanbul, errichtet. Sie wurde später als Moschee benutzt. Das Besondere an diesem Bauwerk ist die Kuppel, die 56 m hoch und 31 m breit ist. Der faszinierende Kuppelbau lässt Architekten und Statiker immer noch die Frage stellen, wie ein solcher Bau zu dieser Zeit möglich war.
