Die Kartoffelrose (Rosa rugosa, Syltrose) gehört zu den am meisten vorkommenden Pflanzen auf Sylt. Sie stammt ursprünglich aus Japan und wurde seit Mitte des 18. Jh. als Pionierpflanze an Stränden und auf Dünen gepflanzt. Im Herbst bilden die Hagebutten und bunten Blätter einen reizvollen Kontrast zum Grün von Strandhafer und Krähenbeeren.
