Description

Ab 1453 wird die Kirche schrittweise in eine Moschee umgebaut. Das erste der Minarette entstand noch unter der Herrschaft Mehmeds II. Die letzten beiden entstanden erst im 16. Jahrhundert. Im Innern wurden die christlichen Zeichen durch moslemische ersetzt. Die Ikonen wurden entfernt und die Mosaike verschwanden hinter einer Putzschicht, was vor allem dem islamischen Bilderverbot geschuldet war.
