Die Flechte Ramalina farinacea auf einem Lärchenzweig. Links unten und rechts oben ist außerdem die Flechte Hypogymnia physodes zu sehen. Am Rand der bandförmigen Lager der Ramalina bricht das Lager an vielen Stellen auf. Dabei handelt es sich um die sog. Sorale, die zur vegetativen Fortpflanzung der Flechte dienen. Viele Flechten sind empfindlich gegenüber Luftverschmutzung. Gut entwickelte Bestände von Ramalina-Arten zeigen relativ saubere Luft an.
