Mit seiner sehr vielfältigen Tier- und Pflanzenwelt bedeckt der Darsswald den größten Teil der Ostsee-Halbinsel Darss und steht unter dem Schutz des Nationalparkes Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft. Im Westen reicht der Wald bis an die Ostsee. Dieser Weststrand ist besonders romantisch, da er sich ohne Menschenhand ständig verändert. Vom Sturm umfallende Bäume des Waldes bleiben liegen. Teile des Darsswaldes werden nicht bewirtschaftet und urwüchsig belassen.
