Icebergs of Jökulsárlón and Fjallsárlón, Iceland from georadek


Jökulsárlón is a glacier lagoon formed in front of the Breiðamerkurjökull glacier in South-East Iceland. Portions of the glacier break off its leading edge forming icebergs that float in the lagoon. Fjallsárlón is a glacier lagoon formed in front of the Fjallsjökull glacier. Both Breiðamerkurjökull (Breidamerkurjokull) and Fjallsjökull (Fjallsjokull) are outlet glaciers (glacier tongues) of the Vatnajökull ice cap (the largest in Iceland and Europe). Breiðamerkurjökull is the glacier that retreats at the fastest pace in Iceland. Vatnajökull National Park (the largest national park in Europe), Austurland (Eastern Iceland).
